Out now: D4.3 Thematic report on urban energy planning: Buildings, industry, transport and energy generation - Planning for energy efficient cities (PLEEC)

Out now: D4.3 Thematic report on urban energy planning: Buildings, industry, transport and energy generation

The aim of Work Package 4 is to identify structure driven energy efficiency potentials within urban planning.

This report is studying key aspects of energy efficiency in spatial structures and urban planning summarizing the case study reports of D4.2 and supplying condensed information by the key aspects regarding spatial structures and planning.

The report reviews relations between urban structure (spatial structure + institutional structure) and four core themes of urban energy:

  • Urban planning and energy use in buildings (mainly residential buildings)
  • Industrial energy use and urban form
  • Spatial Planning, Urban Form and Transport Energy Consumption
  • Urban energy generation

The report is based on material previously elaborated in WP4, including the 6 case study reports (D4.2), as well as on general scientific literature of the field.

This reports represents Deliverable 4.3 of PLEEC´s Work Package 4.

D4.3 Thematic Report on Urban Energy Planning: Buildings, Industry, Transport and Energy generation Version:final

The report reviews relations between urban structure (spatial structure + institutional structure) and four core themes of urban energy:
•    Urban planning and energy use in buildings (mainly residential buildings)
•    Industrial energy use and urban form
•    Spatial Planning, Urban Form and Transport Energy Consumption
•    Urban energy generation

The reports ends with a summary of potential measures and policies of spatial planning in each of the four themes. However, we highlight also that it is crucial to consider the wider perspective and include considerations of potential rebound effects on direct and indirect energy use.
