Round table “Environmental Governance in South Korea and Slovenia”

at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, 19th June 2014 - in the framework of the European Sustainable Energy Week

On 19 June 2014, the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana organises the round table "Environmental Governance in South Korea and Slovenia". The event is organised as part of Europe's biggest event on renewable energy and energy efficiency called "European Sustainable Energy Week" and in connection with the FP7 project PLEEC "Planning for Energy Efficient Cities" and the FP7 project TURAS "Transitioning Towards Urban Resilience and Sustainability" (www.turas-cities.eu). The event takes place from 9:00 till 17:00 hours at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, University of Ljubljana (Jamova cesta 2, 1000 Ljubljana) and is free of charge. The language of the event is English.

Besides some important Slovenian representatives (academic, policy makers, non-profit organisations) the event will host four honourable guest professors from several universities from Seoul (South Korea) that are on a working visit to Austria and Slovenia: Professor Esook Yoon (Kwangwoon University), Professor Tae Joon Lah (Yonsei University), Professor Kyungjun Yun (Hansung University), and Professor Yoonjik Cho (Yonsei University). They are currently lecturing at various universities in Seoul and dealing with issues of environmental management and governance in North-East Asia. As a result of their research work they have recently published a book entitled "Understanding International Environmental Agreements" (in Korean). Their short visit of Ljubljana and Slovenia (18 - 21 June 2014) will include the round table on Thursday 19th June 2014 at the UL FGG, and a visit to the Directorate of Environment at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment of RS on Friday 20th June, including a guided visit by policy makers and urban planners from the City Municipality of Ljubljana of several sustainable, low carbon and energy efficient projects in Ljubljana. On Saturday 21st June 2014 a guided tour of small towns in the Alpine region of Gorenjska (near-by Ljubljana) is planned with a visit to one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Slovenia - lake Bled with the town of Bled. The meeting with local representatives will bring different policy and planning practices with some new projects in the field of sustainable energy use, water management, eco-tourism, building renewal, etc.

The whole event is organised in the framework of the European Sustainable Energy Week 2014, with the goal to gather and share knowledge, best practices, inspire new ideas and build new alliances that could contribute to better and more sustainable energy use in Europe and worldwide. The round table "Environmental Governance in South Korea and Slovenia" will contribute to the promotion and awareness for sustainable and resilient development at the global and local levels.
