Local Kick-off meeting in Jyväskylä

Jyväskylä´s local kick-off meeting will take place on 5 february 2014 from 13:30 to 14:50 in the Aalto hall of the City of Jyväskylä.
The event will be organized in conjunction with the Central Finland Energy Day 2014 which is the largest annual energy event in the region. The target of the 2014 Energy Day is to present trends, tools and cases of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions in Central Finland cities and municipalities contributing to environmentally, economically and socially sustainable energy.
The PLEEC session will take place from 13:30 to 14:50 including the following items:
- Presenting the PLEEC project and its first results
- City of Jyväskylä buildings – Increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy in the city building stock
- City utility Jyväskylän Energia – New ways of delivering sustainable energy
The event takes place in Väinönkatu 7, 40100 Jyväskylä.

Release of 2nd survey for city stakeholders

After the successful analysis of the first survey about "Key fields of energy efficiency and urban development", the second survey on "Energy efficiency: domains, components and strategies" is released now. It is targeted to city stakeholders in the PLEEC partner cities. The survey is running from 15 november until 8 december 2013 and is online available at www.pleecproject.eu/activities/stakeholder-board.html.

Second international Smart Technologies Association (ITA) Conference - "Smart city development. European experience"

On 21 november 2013 the Second international Smart Technologies Association (ITA) Conference - "Smart city development. European experience" takes place at Dubingiai resort, Vilnius district, Lithuania.
The Conference is intended for Smart City development projects and is about sharing international successful experiences. The event is yet another attempt to take advantage of the Triple Helix approach and connect education, business and government representatives to find solutions on how to develop an energy-efficient and innovative city. The conference gives direction to sustainable city development across the Lithuania and is a must-attend for key stakeholders committed to creating smarter cities.
Impressions from the Energy Efficiency Forum in Stoke-on-Trent

Despite rainy weather the atmosphere during the two days in Stroke-on-Trent was great. All project partners were highly motivated and could enjoy two successful project days full of lively and fruitful discussions.
On 5 november the project consortium met internally at the General Assembly Meeting and used the opportunity to discuss the current status and further steps of PLEEC project. During the official first Energy Efficiency Forum on Wednesday, 6 november, external experts Sven Dammann (European Commission) and Sue Riddlestone (CEO from BioRegional) gave inspiring lectures about energy efficiency and best available practices. Located at CoRE - Centre of Refurbishment Excellence - all participants could gain great insights into how energy efficiency measures can be successfully integrated in the construction industry.
Presentation of first project results in Stoke-on-Trent

The Energy Efficiency Forum in Stoke-on-Trent on 6 november is an essential event of PLEEC project: In addition to the possibility of entering into dialogue with representatives of the PLEEC partner consortium, participants will also get insights into the first project findings of PLEEC.
After the successful analysis of the survey “Key fields of energy efficiency and urban development – Survey on energy-related activities within urban development”, leader of Work Package 2 – Vienna University of Technology - can now proudly come up with six city reports, a city comparison report and an expert report. Furthermore the results of the quantitative analysis about preconditions for becoming an energy-efficient smart city will be presented in the form of “smart city profiles”. Energy efficiency is a central topic on the European agenda. PLEEC project contributes to the EU´s 20-20-20 goals by improving energy efficiency in cities. Consisting of 18 partners from 13 different European countries the project will develop a general model for energy efficiency and sustainable city planning during the project life cycle.
This first Energy Efficiency Forum invites you to get to know the key actors of PLEEC, learn more about the project´s activities and get insights into the first project findings. Get the possibility to enter in dialogue with the main project stakeholders and discuss energy efficiency issues from different perspectives!

Successful local Kick-off meeting in Eskilstuna

Participation, clarification and enthusiasm were some of the main ingredients during the local PLEEC kick-off meeting in Eskilstuna which took place on 5 september in Eskilstuna City Hall.
After a project summary by Kristina Birath the Eskilstuna stakeholders were engaged in a mix of discussion and mingling. While enjoying a plate of vegetarian and organic food they discussed questions like key factors for energy efficient cities, how to measure and communicate energy efficiency and the need for competence in energy efficiency.
The prospects for future dialogue forums are promising!
Santiago de Compostela organizes local Kick-off meeting

On july 19th Santiago de Compostela hosted PLEEC´s local Kick-off meeting - introducing more than 60 participants to the project.
The event has been officially opened by the Mayor of Santiago de Compostela City, Ángel Currás, the Rector of Santiago de Compostela University, Juan Casares, and the Councilor of Sustainable Development María Pardo. Subsequently 17 experts of energy efficiency from universities, private companies and the regional administration exchanged their points of view in different round tables about key aspects of energy efficiency.
Local Kick-off meeting in Tartu

Tartu´s local kick-off meeting was held on June 28th. On this occasion interested stakeholders could learn more about PLEEC project, its objectives and activities.
During the meeting the participants took part in a discussion round about the indicators for the Energy Smart City Model. All stakeholders participated actively in the discussion resulting in the determination of basic indicator groups which will be used for modeling the Energy Smart City in Tartu in the future.

Successful project start in Sweden

From Monday, 20th may, until Tuesday, 21th may, the official PLEEC Kick-Off Meeting took place in Eskilstuna, Sweden. More than 40 participants from 13 European countries took part in the event, located at Eskilstuna City Hall.
After the official opening by Lord Mayor of Eskilstuna Alf Egnerfors, Adam Brännström (CEO Eskilstuna Energy and Environment) and Mikael Kullman (PLEEC Project coordinator), all city partners presented their "smart" municipalities focusing on their measures to promote energy efficiency. This was followed by presentations of the Work Package leaders who demonstrated the different tasks, deliverables and objectives within their Work Packages emphasizing the needed input from other partners.
Finally, several get-together opportunities - including a festive reception at Munktell Museum - allowed the participants to get to know each other personally and exchange ideas and knowledge. In this sense, PLEEC Kick-Off Meeting created the basis for a fruitful cooperation during the upcoming three project years!
Directly after the Kick-Off Meeting the work with regards to content could start. Leader of WP2, Vienna University of Technology, organized the first workshop aiming at the final elaboration of "Energy Smart City Profiles" of the participating six PLEEC cities.
