Europe's biggest event to promote renewable energy and energy efficiency: EU Sustainable Energy Week

23 - 27 June 2014

EU Sustainable Energy WeekEurope's leading event on sustainable energy is a European Commission initiative which invites public, private and academic institutions to engage in helping to meet the EU's energy and climate goals. The Sustainable Energy Week highlights the use of sustainable resources, how to ensure a clean environment, how to secure energy sources and how to reduce energy waste.

In order to promote energy efficiency and renewable energies and to share best practices, not-for-profit events will be organized as Energy Days in Brussels, throughout Europe and worldwide. In 2014 Energy Days can be organized during the entire month of June.

Announcement: Local Dialogue Forum in Jyväskylä

On 8 may 2014 PLEEC city partner Jyväskylä hosts a Local dialogue forum about energy efficiency in Jyväskylä. The event takes place from 8 to 11 hrs in the City hall of Jyväskylä.

The aim of the event is to present the PLEEC project and its latest results, and to gather opinions from the relevant stakeholders on the needs, possibilities and challenges in promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy in the city.

Review: PLEEC city partner Tartu organizes Local Dialogue Forum

Tartu organizes Local Dialogue Forum Tartu´s Local Dialogue Forum "Energy efficiency in Tartu – Status and trends" took place in Tartu Nature House (Lille Street. 10, Tartu) on April 10th. 27 representatives of local interest groups attended the forum.

In the first part of the seminar current research study results of PLEEC project were presented. Furthermore, the participants discussed possibilities to improve energy efficiency in Tartu. "Technology, governance and behavior" were important keywords.

Impressions from PLEEC partner meeting in Turku, 25 – 28 march 2014

Turku presented itself at its best and welcomed the PLEEC partners with sunny and warm springtime weather.

Starting on Tuesday afternoon with the Executive Board Meeting of all Work Package leaders, the whole PLEEC partner consortium came together on Wednesday morning in Logomo – an event venue transformed from an old railway workshop. The morning session which was open for the public included inspiring speeches about PLEEC project, energy efficient cities, smart people and the way towards an energy efficient future. According to U.S. Ambassador to Finland H.E. Bruce Oreck "it´s all about the cities" - energy efficiency has to be realized in the cities in order to guarantee an energy efficient future.

Review: Local Dialogue Forum in Santiago de Compostela

fotos foro dialogo local 2014 006On 20 march 2014 PLEEC partner Santiago de Compostela welcomed around 35 participants in the university´s venues to the first Local Dialogue Forum.

The agenda of the forum included various presentations about topics like sustainable actions in Santiago de Compostela University, energy refurbishment and heating systems as well as a roundtable discussion about "best practices for savings and energy efficiency measures in buildings".

Review: Local Dialogue Forum in Eskilstuna

Eskilstuna´s first Local Dialogue Forum was held at the municipality´s City hall on 12 march 2014 - dealing with the topic "Technology innovations, how to get new technology from idea to installation".

21 project managers, procurers and contractors from the public and private sector participated in the discussions about questions like

  • How can the procurement of new technology become easily managed and understood?
  • How can we overcome obstacles for introducing new technology?
  • How should information about new and existing technical innovations be communicated?
  • What extra efforts does the introduction of new technology require?

Call for Papers: International Conference “Sustainable Energy Use and Management”

On 20 may 2014 the University of Targu-Jiu, Romania, is hosting in cooperation with PLEEC project the International Conference "Sustainable Energy Use and Management".

The main goal of the conference is to provide an opportunity for academics and professionals to exchange ideas and expertise on matters related to sustainable energy, energy efficiency and energy management.

The conference will be organised in two main sessions:

  • Session 1: Green Economy, Energy Efficiency and Energy Management
  • Session 2: Technical challenges for recycling the industrial wastes (EcoWASTES)

PLEEC partner meeting in Turku

From 25 – 28 march 2014 the PLEEC project partners will meet in the Finnish partner city Turku - situated on the southwest coast of Finland.

The event starts on Tuesday afternoon, 25 march, with a meeting of the Executive Board members. The Executive Board - being composed of the coordinator and all WP Leaders - is the supervisory body which is responsible for the effective and efficient implementation of the project.

The next days will be followed by workshops treating Work Packages 3, 4, and 5 which focus on the elaboration of energy efficiency recommendations from the three key perspectives technology driven efficiency potentials (WP3), structure driven efficiency potentials (WP4) and behavior driven efficiency potentials (WP5).

We are looking forward to a fruitful and effective meeting in Turku!

Call for papers: 14th International Conference on Current Issues of Sustainable Development - “Sustainable Energy Supply and Sustainable Product Innovation”

Call for PapersOpole 2014Sustainability issues have become so common in many fields of socio-, political- and economic life, that it is often forgotten that it requires new approaches and a change in rules guiding human activity, ways of thinking and governance structures.

Different approaches regarding life styles on the one hand and technological changes on the other hand are depending on innovations and transitions.

Therefore, the conference 'Sustainable Energy Supply and Sustainable Product Innovation' focuses on the special need to understand the transition path towards more sustainable production structures and energy supply.

The conference is hosted in cooperation with PLEEC project by the Opole University in Poland and will take place in Opole from 26 - 28 June 2014.

Local kick-off meeting in Stoke-on-Trent: Presentations for download

PLEEC-kickoffStoke-on-Trent´s local kick-off meeting on 20 February attracted 19 participants from Registered Social Landlords, Energy Companies and the City Council departments Planning, Housing and Economic Development. The attendees learned about the aims and objectives of PLEEC project with the three pillars Behavioural Change, Planning and Technology. This was followed by a presentation of retrofitting projects undertaken by Stoke-on-Trent City Council to their own social housing stock such as loft insulation and solid wall insulation.
Finally, the event was topped off by a bus tour around the city to a couple of these retrofit projects.

Stoke-on-Trent organizes local Kick-off Meeting

On 20 february 2014 PLEEC city partner Stoke-on-Trent (UK) is inviting all interested stakeholders to its local kick-off meeting. The event will take place at CoRE (Centre of Refurbishment Excellence), Normacot Road, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, ST3 1PR.
