Activities - Planning for energy efficient cities (PLEEC)

Work Packages - Activities

The measures within the PLEEC project are focused on middle-sized cities.

The PLEEC partner cities, so-called "model"-cities are the following six middle-sized European cities:

In order to have efficient, effective, high quality management, Work Package (WP) 1 is dedicated to the coordination and management of the project consortium throughout the whole project life cycle.

In Work Package 2 the performance of the six model middle-sized "PLEEC"-cities (Eskilstuna, Jyväskylä, Stoke-on-Trent, Santiago de Compostela, Tartu, Turku) on key aspects – such as renovation of building stock, energy systems, smart heating/cooling grids, smart electricity grids, water networks, efficient waste collection and treatment, recycling and energy use, efficient transportation and mobility systems – will be analysed. These "Smart City Profiles" will reveal the specific opportunities and threats that will confront cities on their innovation journey towards an energy-efficient development.

In the next step, three parallel work packages will elaborate energy efficiency recommendations from three key perspectives:

Work Package 3 – Technology-driven energy efficiency

Work Package 4 – Structure-driven energy efficiency

Work Package 5 – Behaviour-driven energy efficiency

Finally, in Work Package 6 the results from WP2, 3, 4 and 5 will be integrated in the model of energy efficiency and sustainable city planning. A summary of the individually best matching recommendations to improve the city´s energy efficiency performance will be developed as "Energy Efficiency Action Plan" for each PLEEC city - guiding the cities on their way to become energy smart.

Work Package 7 will ensure proper dissemination of the project's results at local, national and EU level.
